Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is looking to hire a Legal Research Associate for GNLU Research Project funded by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India.
Candidates must have LLB/ LLM/MA in Criminology or any other Social Science/Social Work/Sociology/Social Welfare background
A clear commitment to contributing to the research environment.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Hindi are essential and Gujarati will be an additional advantage.
Ability to organize training and undertake travel in the state of Gujarat or outside of Gujarat as required.
Strong analytical, methodological and conceptual skills.
Computer skills including proficiency in use of internet, MS Office, Statistics (SPSS) and presentation applications.
Ability to work flexibly and good time management.
The interview committee may select a candidate who, otherwise not having required educational background, in the view of committee members, meets desired knowledge, skills, abilities and aptitude in the larger interests of the project.
Under the direct supervision and guidance of the Principal Investigator (PI) & Co-Investigator (Co-PI), the Legal Research Associates will perform the following duties:
Compilation, Categorization and analysis of the Supreme Court and High Courts cases, Reports, Committees concerning Bail Matters, Rights of the Under-trial prisoners for the Project “Bail Reforms in the context of under Trial women Prisoners: An action- oriented research with special reference to Sabarmati Central Jail in the state of Gujarat”;
Conduct library and internet-based research;
Undertake field visit for collection of data, interviews, etc. to the Supreme Court and High Courts, Jail, Jail Officials, Law Department etc.;
Verify the validity and accuracy of data/cases collected, categorised and entered in databases;
Analyze and interpret cases and prepare research findings for dissemination to the relevant stakeholders;
Interact with internal and external contacts, including faculty, legal experts, researchers and other stakeholders;
Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by PI / Co-PI of the project
