Clariant, a globally leading specialty chemicals company, based in Muttenz near Basel/Switzerland, reporting in four business areas: Care Chemicals, Catalysis, Natural Resources, and Plastics & Coatings is looking to hire an IP Manager for their Mumbai Office.
Responsibilities:
Protection and defence of Intellectual Property Assets of Clariant in India
Ensure protection and defence of intellectual property, including know-how
Harvest and evaluate Invention Disclosures, initiates novelty searches & supports analysis of results.
Ensure registration, enforcement, maintenance and defence of the company’s regional trademarks
Support obtaining, managing and defending IP rights of Clariant in India
Draft of patent applications and prosecution thereof.
Defend IP rights against attacks from 3rd parties.
Draft IP agreements (CDA, JDA, License) in alignment with Legal and global IPM
Assist in management/review of patent and trademark portfolios.
Ensure proper IP Risk Management to enable product launches
Perform investigations re freedom-to-operate/invalidity.
Define and take countermeasures vs. competitor’s IP.
Define and implement Anti-Counterfeiting Strategies for India
Raise and maintain IP awareness
Perform IP awareness trainings for R&D team and other relevant stakeholders.
Keep IPM colleagues globally updated of major IP legal developments in India.
Act as a liaison person between local clients and global IPM functions, including IP contract matters.
Evaluate employees’ inventions and implement incentive rewards payments.
Strategic IP Management
Defines and supports IP strategy development and execution in alignment with business priorities
Provides value-added IP services and counseling to local business and service units
Scientific Information Management
Support and advise all stakeholders of Clariant Innovation process with respect to all search requests within the field of technical/scientific information including patent information (sources, access, retrieval, use, relevance)
Use of commercial databases to retrieve external information (including search for chemical structures) relevant for Clariant within a given budget
Requirements:
Diploma/MSc in Chemistry or related field (Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry); PhD and/or experience in corporate R&D preferred
Patent Attorney or comparable qualification / LLB
At least 5 years in-house professional experience as IP counsel, preferably in MNC/chemical industry
Excellent communication in English (written and spoken)
Highly motivated and proactive demanour, strategic thinking and business-affinity, able to set priorities and manage high workload, customer focussed, excellent interpersonal/communication skills and stakeholder management, open-minded, leading by example.
